BACKGROUND:  I grew up in Germany and started doing track and field when I was 7-years old. I was ranked in the top 5 in my age group in Germany for several years so I ended up getting recruited to run Division 1 college track in the US (my events were the 800m/1500m/mile). I chose to attend Wake Forest University on a full scholarship (my mile PR is 4:50) and absolutely loved it. Once I got done with my collegiate running career, however, I decided I no longer wanted to race anymore. I still love running and do it almost daily, but Sonki Fitness is now my prime sport/fitness.

What is your current exercise routine?  I do Sonki Fitness three times a week. And I go for a run on my days off with Sonki Fitness (typically 4-5 miles). I also do a daily walk after work for about 45 min.

What is your motivation to stay in shape?  Looking and feeling good about myself.

What is your key to success?  Consistency. I work out 6 days a week and decided that I need to do what’s attainable in the long-term. I don’t work out 3 hours one day and then rest for 3 days after. Instead I focus on what I enjoy and can do every day without getting burnt out mentally or physically.

What do you like about Sonki Fitness Boot Camp and how has it affected your life?  I’m a big fan of Sonki Fitness because it includes exercises for all parts of the body which is a great complement to my regular runs. It’s helped me get more toned again, and I like the short sprints and hill runs in between the body weight/resistance exercises. It’s a great workout and can be quite challenging, but at the end of the day you can decide how hard you want to push yourself so it’s appropriate for all levels. I’m a morning person, so the 6:30am class is a great way to start the day before work. Also have you seen those beach sunrises during Sonki Fitness AM classes?!

What advice would you give to others about fitness?  Do the workouts you enjoy and listen to your body. I truly believe the key to success is doing the type of activities/workouts that are fun to you. That way you can do it for the rest of your life without it feeling like a chore. And most importantly, listen to your body. There will be days you’re going to feel great so you can pick it up a notch and there will be days, you’ll feel the opposite and that’s okay. I do all my workouts based on effort (and did this for the longest part of my running career too) instead of having a watch tell me how I’m doing. This will help you mentally, and I promise you it will prevent injuries too.
