BACKGROUND: I started Sonki Fitness Boot Camp in February 08, and my daughter was born in April. Staying in shape has helped me be more sane and a better, more present dad. I don’t consider myself much of an athlete. After my first workout, I struggled to return for a second. But a month later, I had abs. I give Sonki Fitness trainer Katie all the credit.
But once I tasted results, my motivation began to build. For the last six months, I have been waking up with my daughter for night feedings and showing up for class in t-shirts covered with spit-up. But I have had a blast, rocked my results, and for the first time in my life gained the upper hand on asthma.
What is your current exercise routine? Most of the time I do the 6:30 AM Playa Vista class, and when time and motivation intersect I do two-a-days. As much as I like to run or swim on off days, I know that if I work as hard as I can for three hours a week I’ll be in good shape.
What is your motivation to stay in shape? I wasn’t very motivated until I started seeing results. Now it’s hard to contemplate letting it all slide. Losing my conditioning would be a bummer, but I am a basket case without a workout. I know I am much more popular at home when I get exercise.
What is your greatest challenge to staying in shape? Getting a babysitter at six in the morning isn’t easy when my spouse is out of town.
What is your key to success? Listening to trainer Katie. The harder I work, the better I feel. There are few places in my life where outcomes so clearly reflect effort.
How long have you been doing Sonki Fitness Boot Camp? It’s been about three and a half years (yes, I’m a veteran!). Sonki’s Boot Camp really fits my lifestyle.
What do you like about Sonki Fitness Boot Camp and how has it affected your life? Finding Sonki Fitness has been a happy accident. I tagged along after a friend convinced me to join up. Two classes in and I was deep in nausea and fighting fatigue in muscles idle for 20 years. But over time the changes in my body have amazed me. I think that anyone who shows up is going to see results. The motivation and the boost in confidence and energy touch all parts of my life.
What advice would you give to others about fitness? Make it fun, and then you forget how hard you are working.
