AGE: 33
PROFESSION: Spokesmodel, Host, and Designer
BACKGROUND: I first heard about Sonki Fitness from Sonki himself, and with his encouragement, I took my first class. This is EXACTLY the type of fitness class I enjoy, and makes my work-out routine more well rounded. Being outdoors and the variation of exercises keeps me looking forward to coming to class. With every class completed, I feel stronger physically and mentally. I realize that the more I challenge myself, the more I am capable of. I try to give it 100% every time I go to class. I feel accomplished and proud of myself for being dedicated to my overall well-being and health.
What is your current exercise routine? I generally work out 4-6 times per week, anywhere between 1-2 hours per session. Currently, besides doing Sonki Fitness three times a week, I do kickboxing, hiking, the Santa Monica stairs, running on the beach, or yoga on the other days. I also love to ride my bike along the bike path or even surf. I try to do whatever it takes to remain active and at least get sweaty for an hour a day.
What is your motivation to stay in shape? I have several motivations to stay in shape. First off, I love the way I feel when I work out. I feel alive and powerful, not just physically but mentally as well. Knowing that I am doing something for my body that is healthy and rewarding keeps me going. Secondly, I am my business, so I get hired a lot based upon my physical appearance. If I don’t stay in shape, I would have to find another line of work, and I LOVE what I do! I love the way working out makes me look. It keeps me toned and fit on the outside as well as on the inside. I love being at the beach, so I like keeping a swimsuit ready body! Lastly, I am conscious about what I eat. I love food and I make healthy nutritional choices most of the time. But I have my days when I eat what I want, and working out keeps me in check. It’s really about a balance for me. I work out and I eat right. I try to keep everything in check so I can live the life I want. I travel a lot so being healthy helps me accomplish all of my goals…and I have a lot of them!
What is your greatest challenge to staying in shape? My travel schedule. It is very challenging to work out when you travel for work as much as I do. But hey, it’s part of my job, so I do it. It is so easy to work and then just go back to my hotel room and lounge around since I am outside of my personal space at the time and there is probably some crazy weather condition outside in some random city I am in, making it impossible to go outside and actually enjoy it. In LA, it’s very easy to find a gym or a yoga class or a boot camp. It’s not as easy in other parts of the country. No matter where I travel to, I always make sure to pack my gym shoes and workout clothes as well as a swimsuit, and a work out video to play on my computer. I am fortunate to stay at very nice hotels, so the for the most part it’s accommodating.
What is your key to success? Balance, connection, dedication and commitment. I try to stay committed to the things I say I am going to do. Integrity is extremely important to me, so if I say I am going to work out 5 times that week, I do. I set weekly goals for myself and plan out my work outs around my other life activities. We are all busy, let’s face it. But if I say it, I do it. It keeps me going. I also have a very strong mind-body connection, and I feel that when I feel physically strong, my mind is stronger and more alert as well. When my body is tired, my mind tells it to keep going, knowing I will feel better when I am done. I feel accomplished. When I don’t work out, I feel yucky. I also have to find balance in my life. I work hard and I play hard. So for those moments that I play hard, I have to work out harder to counteract the too much play time.
How long have you been doing Sonki Fitness Boot Camp? For about a year now (minus a few months due to my travel schedule.)
What do you like about Sonki Fitness Boot Camp and how has it affected your life? I like EVERYTHING about Sonki Fitness Boot Camp! Where do I begin…I love you, Sonki, as a trainer! And I love Katie too! I love the dedication Sonki and his trainers have to their clients in helping them to achieve their goals. He is inspiring and committed to making sure that we get what we want out of class. I acknowledge and thank him for that. I also love the challenge and variety of the boot camp. Each day is different, which keeps me interested. I get bored easily, so doing a different workout routine each day is awesome to me! I love working out at the beach, so having classes there is a true bonus. This boot camp has affected me and my life in so many ways. I feel stronger physically and mentally. I feel more accomplished because I committed to something and made it happen. I feel like I am a part of a group where we all value being healthy and dedicated to our physical well-being. I feel lucky to have this in my life!!
What advice would you give to others about fitness? Set goals for yourself and try to stay committed to those goals. We can all find so many excuses why not to work out, let’s face it. But in those moments, reach down and remember how fulfilled and alive you feel after you make it through a class. Even if you really aren’t feeling it that day, just do something to stay active. Eating well is half the battle too. Make sure your eating habits are in check with your workout routine, it’s extremely important for your overall well-being. You need the right fuel to get you through the day.
Any other comments? I truly enjoy Sonki Fitness Boot Camp! It gives me a routine and stability in my rather chaotic schedule. Thank you for dedicating your life to making sure we maintain healthy and achieve our fitness goals!
